Last year, after moving to England, I decided it was time for me to learn to drive. Driving lessons uk style are different to where I'm from, andI wasn't sure where to start, so I tried a web search, typing in driving lessons uk, and loads of different motoring school sites came up. I was happily taking a look at one, when my computer inconveniently crashed, so I had to start over. I typed in driving lessons uk again, and the same list appeared. One of the sites was an index entitleddriving lessons uk - just what I was trying to find. I looked through them all, and settled on a local school I hadn't heard of before.

The prices for a course of ten lessons were cheaper than paying for each lesson on the day, so I signed up for the course. During my first lesson, I was absolutely useless! I couldn't get the hang of controlling my speed, or turning the wheel just the right amount - I even forgot to put my seat belt on at one point, before attempting to drive off. The instructor stopped me though.

At the end of the hour, I had made little progress, but I was determined to improve in my second lesson, and I did. I learned to control the car at a low speed, and keep my speed constant. The instructor told me I was doing well.

My third lesson, however, wasn't as good. I was told to drive at 30mph, then taken on to a road where I had to stay at, or just below, 50mph. This wasn't so bad, other than my fear that I would lose control of the vehicle, but at the end of the road, I had to suddenly change from 50mph to 20mph to go into a quiet little village! This is not an easy thing to do, especially for a beginner such as myself. In the village, there were parked cars everywhere and I was sure I was going to crash into one eventually. I was incredibly nervous when trying to navigate between a car and an ambulance, which were parked insanely close together, but I managed it in the end.

My fourth lesson was absolutely awful. I don't know why, but I had serious trouble remembering which way to flick the lever to signal left or right. Obviously, this is awkward and quite dangerous when attempting to turn from a quiet street onto a busy main road. I was already nervous about getting things wrong, and the instructor didn't help matters by shouting at me when I made mistakes. He also made me stop the car every time I missed something I should have done, and asked me what I forgot to do. If I knew, I would have done it! He wouldn't help me though, he just made me keep guessing, therefore wasting my time and money. After this, I began dreading lessons. I reached the end of my ten lesson course without making much improvement, and gave up. I am currently looking at other driving schools, and hope to find an instructor who can help me more than the last one was able to.
